What is the point of beautiful looking CGI if the story is boring and overlong and the characters are uninteresting and forgettable while you become increasingly less invested as it progresses? If you can't tell I struggled to get through this, washing the dishes is more engaging. Not much makes sense and the story logic becomes more and more strained as this yawn fest crawls along. The involvement of human characters in this film is of an extremely low order in fact the one recognisable face, William Macy, feels like such an after thought his character seems a token add on for marketing purposes and completely unnecessary story wise. Maybe it's just me but I found that lack of human involvement on screen caused me to have even less of an interest. Sorry Apes, hope stuff works out for you all but I really couldn't care less.
Love a super natural thriller but good ones are few and far between. Started strong, interesting premise, compelling and charismatic lead actress but as it chugged along I just became less and less engaged. By the end I was far from satisfied, it seemed to move into derivative silly country and I couldn't of cared less about the characters. It has some interesting moments and themes to be sure. Melanie Scrofano is the glue that holds this together, I wouldn't of made it to the end without her enjoyable performance and dry wit. If you are a fan of Melanie give it a go, you may enjoy this. Me, by the end I didn't even care enough to try and understand what was going on so to be honest a lot of it just went over my head. Sad because at the start I thought I was in for a fun ride I was going to thoroughly enjoy. I was wrong. However I don't wanna be a total deputy downer so In appreciation of the high concept effort though and Melanie's involvement I give it a six and I think that's being pretty generous.
How many first responders or even police do you know proceed into disaster zones to help people and save lives with automatic weapons drawn with their fingers on the trigger? I seem to remember the alien xenomorphs incapacitating their victims careful not to kill them and bundling them off to a hive to be cocooned and used as hosts in a kind of hatchery, a process that took considerable planning and time not raging through the environment shredding and indiscriminately killing anything that moves? What a disappointment these opening two episodes are. Chalk up another triumph of cool surfaces over depth and story logic. That's right, it all looks kinda cool for sure, but if you are looking for true continuity with the Alien franchise forget it! Unless that is the simple use of CRT monitors and Christmas lights in the Mother ship control room if enough to satisfy that itch.
It seems that the juvenile characters pitched into this situation you would not send juvenile minds into in a million years must of also been employed in the writers room to write the script or at least finger paint it. Best watched with the sound turned down as wall paper at a concert or house party.
