Like many movies these days this movie suffers from it's need to meet mass appeal of an audience of varried interests. However, nothing can excuse the terrible writing and plotting of this movie, especially the first 20 minutes. What an absolutely unnecessary cop out, to focus on the dumbing down of the simplest premise instead of literally anything else. The mercenary-pharma-scientist team is just so immensely boring and overdone they should have been side characters from the start. Of course the real story is the slightly unrealistic boat family. Which, if you skip first twenty minutes (and that weird scene with ScarJo and the insufferable scientist) and go straight to their introduction, it is a far more compelling beginning.
Every rewrite of this franchise gets further and further away from the very simple premise of the first movie: dinosaurs and what to do about them when they're attacking you. While the ethical considerations of dinosaurs and the immorality of capitalism leading science is also an interesting story, it's somehow more overplayed than the amount of children this series bring to the dinosaurs as devices of suspense. So, if you want to largely ignore the pharma story and instead focus on people in danger from the consequences of hubris, I'm going to recommend skipping the first twenty minutes of the movie. You'll even get a raptor hide and seek scene. Enjoy.

I don't mean to hate on this movie so much so I'll make a compliment sandwich. I think this movie has some seriously well made action scenes and visually stimulating cinematography. The drama in this felt so cheesy like drenched a fondue pot.
Ultimately it's a spy movie, and they really spent a bunch of money in the right place on this movie, except maybe find someone else to do a score, because my god, can someone arrest the man who scored this movie. I swear every action scene was scored with something that managed to make no sense with what was happening at all. The only scene where the music felt ok was when it was diegetic.
It was hard to pay attention to much else once you notice how off the music is compared to what's happening on screen. The romance was cute and I appreciate that it was an older, matching aged couple. But it wasn't a strong story line. The few moments that sparkled didn't stand out against the rest of the bland film.
Overall an okay watch with some fun action scenes and poor music.
