Happy to see this observation already present/ Strange new worlds is way more trek than discovery. However, ive cut it too much slack. TNG used holodeck episodes to save money. To pay for CGI on other episodes in a 20+ episodes series. When youre only doing half series dont waste time on this. Same as your singing episode. Were not here to indulge your actors having a good time. Were here for trek. This iteration is better but stop wasting episodes if youre not going to do a proper series.
So a firearms accident happens. The actual moment is not very believable, but I have a little trick I do for things like this, what we see is symbolic for what actually happened.
This aside I very much enjoyed the rest of the movie.
The atmosphere was often oppressive, which added to the tension in a good way.
I'm not too sure that the people of northern Scotland are this partisan but as I've never been there I couldnt really say.
The more abrasive of the two main characters was mildly infuriating at times but in a way I can relate to. I've known plenty of people like him.
I actually work with a chap who shoots rifles as a hobby and last year drove around scotland including more than one ferry to an island (ill have to ask what his opinion of northern scots are, hes into thrillers and horror movies). Weve talked before about firearm safety and covered the whole "never point a gun at something you dont intend to shoot". But also how to handle someone else pointing a gun at something they shouldnt. As with many things people should consider the worst case scenario in order to be better prepared for a terrible situation.
The less abrasive character did not do this, and later reflects in a way that suggests he should have, and that he should have acted differently in the moment. He is carried along by his dubious partner.
Considering this, the ending was quite satisfying if slightly surprising.

I quite enjoyed this movie. I got into MMA in 2018 and confess that this added interest for me.
I was expecting this movie to be very contrived but was pleasanly surprised.
I was also expecting to dislike the main character but I liked the main actress and her starting boyfriend did a good job of producing negative emotion in me. Her character appealed to me a great deal and his did the opposite.
Her second charge also does a good job portraying a decent guy, who still makes mistakes but handles them differently.
Whilst I will say this movie rapidly covers very complicated topics and perhaps should spend a little longer on at least some of them, or provide a little more detail, I mostly agreed with its narrative on relationships, toxic and not.
As the movie wears on I feel like we get more evidence to support the toxicity of her initial relationship. The main character dishes out pearls of wisdom to her sister which she really ought to have listened to herself (her internal monolgue says as much), and this did stretch my credulity slightly but not too far. People do all sorts of crazy stuff for love against their better judgement.
I also think a large number of people make the mistake that the main character did of never putting themselves first. I dont totally agree with her version of events, but the second charge mostly agrees with her depiction of events and acts based on their agreed perception (if not to the immediate satisfaction of all). I was slightly disappointed with him not being there for her after a visit to the hospital and mostly didnt beleive the character weve had displayed before us would have bailed on her so hard and fast especially after she turns up to support him at in important moment despite their recent argument, although he claims he has good reason.
In this regard I think as many people should see this movie as possible.
