Well, I did enjoy the first episode of Matlock. Of course, any material Kathy Bates touches is going to get a lift. I think she had good chemistry with the rest of the cast. Again, maybe thats what you get with an acting legend. And we love Beau Bridges who made a cameo like appearance. What an ACE in the hole CBS has there. Then, along comes Sam Anderson whos talent and charisma brings something special to every character he plays. If the stories and writing can keep up with the talent pool this series has, and the director can give a little guidance to the younger cast, I think CBS is going to have a hit on its hands.
I don't think an ensemble can get much more impressive. Paul Bettany is always great. As Will Emerson he portrays a cocky and callous stock broker, a character we would probably hate, and at the same time, shows honesty, empathy, humility, and a big-brother quality. A character tough to pull off? Each scene he's in, every line he speaks, Bettany mesmorizes me with the skill and charisma he wields seemingly so effortlessly. Jeremy Irons is of course awesome and similarly portrays a complex character whose scenes I can watch over and over. Watching this movie from start to finish I was never bored. I thought the pace, intensity, and suspense was perfectly directed.
Not gonna win any oscars and i've read this in other reviews as well. But I like a shoot em up, blow em up, using tech, movie. Actually, one of my favorite scenes was dialogue at the beginning of the movie which was before the shooting and blowing up. The cast is strong and I'm excited to see Milo on the big screen and hope it leads to more and bigger roles. Some how I am mesmerized by his presence; one of the qualites of a superstar I guess. I comepletely agree with some of the comparisons made to 80's action movies. The cast and the modern tech help the movie feel new, however. This might be one you want to catch on the big screen cuz blowing stuff up is always cooler there.
