I fully admit I'm too obsessed with the original cast and story that I had a hard time loving this. Certain actors' portrayal and even looks were spot on, but their performances were surface-level and felt like just people doing impressions: Angel, Maria, Vince. Some felt way off base, like Deb & Harry. Christian Slater was nothing like James Remar's version, who was so involved in Dexter's young life and training. The original Deb had a complex range of emotions and moments of making you laugh out loud, while this version of Deb is just angry and swears a lot. Patrick Gibson was good as a young Dexter trying to figure out how to be a successful vigilante serial killer; no one was going to match Michael C Hall's ability to make that character be a sociopath while also so captivating.

All that said, it's one season and we got to know the Dexter characters over many seasons, so obviously you can't expect the same character development and depth. But I used to be glued to the story and walk away from every episode with intense feelings. I didn't have that with Original Sin. It looks good and is entertaining, I'm just not sure it needed to be made if it wasn't going to do anything unique besides make them younger.

I can't get over how much I Ioved this. The animation is gorgeous and you can understand everything going on despite no dialogue at all. Great movie for kids and adults. I could be a little biased because my cat, who is still alive, has terminal cancer and we're giving her hospice care. Even still, you feel for all the animals and even get frustrated at times. I caught myself saying the dogs are assholes but then being like...they're just dogs though. Oh and this isn't real life lol. It's that good!

Also I would die for that cat and let the bird be my healthcare proxy.

Go see it in the theater if you can!

It's an addictive show. Not all seasons are created equal and I think seasons 1-4 cannot be topped in all of television. You couldn't pick a better Dexter than Michael C. Hall, or a better serial killer storyline. Debra might be my favorite character in terms of how much she grows, how hilarious she is and how much she goes through as a "normal" person (compared to Dexter).

Many episodes are so well done with their twists it gave me goosebumps. If you're not into murder shows then this probably isn't for you. If you are, this might be the GOAT as I have yet to see it outdone.

The finale: many hate it. If you pay attention to The things Dexter says about his life throughout the show and wanting to stop pretending for other people, I think it makes perfect sense. Is it perfect? No, but it works and I didn't regret the near perfection that led up to it.
