So I went in blind, got really pulled in by it (which in itself is an achievement) but ultimately felt disappointed by where it went...
Really good character background build (clumsy at times maybe, but regardless it worked) and then misses the mark - maybe it was a budget thing?
Thought the lead guy and his on screen dad were engaging, and I'd be interested to see what the writer/director guy could do with more cash.
Seeing a remake of this with a more developed third act would do me: I've rated it five based on the strength of that and the potential built... whether that means you should watch it I don't know.

This is the best film I saw last year, and I saw a lot... Ignoring plot, visuals and meaning, there's something I find profoundly disturbing about the scene featuring Mr Melancholy (where nothing actually happens) that the whole piece feels like a build in tension to that scene, with everything after it steady comedown.
I've actually no idea if that's intentional or personal, but I've watched it multiple times now with the same response.
I really liked it and am pleased other people appear to as well, regardless of how/why they connected to it... Evocative, inventive and impressive: a rarity.

It was original but I didn't enjoy it; offbeat to the point of being static. Fans of intricate problem solving by way of needle and thread will love it.
I realise my reviews are not allowed to be as succinct as I would like, due to imdb's minimum length requirement...
Please ignore the following waffle that attempts to fill the remaining required characters, while acknowledging that reviews can perhaps be just as effective with fewer words. Really, I should use needle and thread contraption to type this, though I fear that may be interpretted as critique of the movie rather than placeholder.
