Steven Spielberg's west side story movie is the perfect example of how to do a musical movie well. Not only did he cast actors that look and act like the roles, he casted actual actors with broadway experience. This showed to be a great decision as dancing tends to be a big factor forgotten in musical movies but not in this one. There are many dance scenes and all of them are incredible.
Spielberg also uses colour incredibly smartly in this movie to show the divide between the two groups. With reds and yellows associated with the sharks and blues associated with the jets.
This movie in my opinion is even better than the 1961 adaptation. The musical itself follows a Romeo and Juliet type story based in a 1950s New York. It follows the two gangs (the Sharks and the Jets) as they fight for territory. It also follows the love story of two individuals on opposite sides of this rivalry.
This movie does musical theatre justice with how it portrays the music, acting and dance.
Overall if you have time to watch it you should as it is likely to quickly become a favourite of yours if you like musicals.

I loved six when I saw it in Theatres last year. I heard about it coming to cinema and knew I had to go watch it, so I did. I loved seeing the actors on the big screen especially as it was the original cast. If you liked Six or haven't seen it but are interested in it I would highly recommend you watch it.
The start of the movie gives a bit of backstory to how Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss created it and how the original cast got to see reactions to the new musical. Seeing the complete musical on the big screen was better than I expected, I didn't expect to still get chills at moments like the high note in 'heart of stone' but I did.
The movie also shows costume details that I had never noticed before like the earrings being the Roman numerals for which wife of Henry's they were.
Overall this was a great movie musical but I still would recommend seeing it in person in a theatre if you can.

This movie was an instant 10/10 from me. Normally I'm not one for movies without much action but this movie changed me. This movie was made in 1989 and directed by Peter Weir. It is meant to take place in the year 1959-1960. It is about a group of school boys who learn to rebel against the status quo and find meaning in life with the help of their new poetry teacher (played by Robin Williams).
This film is heartwarming (until the last 30 minutes). I would highly recommend watching it if you have the time.
Warning: you will become obsessed with it and think about it all the time and make those around you watch it...
