Let's face it - I Know What You Did Last Summer is not a franchise material. Even though I like 1998 sequel, it was more of a guilty pleasure to me. I genuinely believe that 1997 original was very much product of its time and should've stayed as a standalone movie. And after I've watched this legacy sequel I stand by my statement once again!

You don't have to be a genius to understand that this movie is trying to recreate the Scream 2022 formula (just like original back in the 90s). But there's a big difference. Scream 2022 works because it was made by Radio Silence duo - big fans of Ghostface franchise. They were very respectful and showed so much appreciation to previous Scream movies and horror genre in general. That's why I wasn't really harsh about the things that didn't really worked for me in 2022 movie. However, creators of Last Summer requel (who also claims to be a "big fan of original") chose different approach. It was more like "1997 movie was interesting, but we can do better!" And it fails miserably.

Okay, IKWYDLS 2025 looks pretty in terms of esthetics, i'll give credit here. There was also one dream sequence scene that made me genuinely smile (it was dumb, it didn't make any sense, but still - it was awesome). And despite hook is still killer's primary weapon of choice - it's not the only tool used by Fisherman, which is kinda cool.

But when it comes to new characters, dialogue, legacy characters storylines and more importantly, killer's reveal - this is where movie lost me. I didn't like ANY of newbies. I'm sure actors did everything they could, it's not their fault that dialogue is terrible. Killer reveal is polarizing - i'm impressed that they had balls to do something like that, but execution still sucks, not to mention - full of plot holes.

I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 is definitely one of the biggest disappointments of the year. Leave this franchise alone already!
