I'm a big fan of Jason Watkins, he's a very watchable actor in my opinion. He's very safe and dependable with what I would describe as a raw vulnerability. He really carries the weight of this show although the other actors are decent too. Okay it's not the most surprising murder mystery drama I've ever seen but I found myself happy to coast along and watch to the end. A few more twists would have been good and the final episode is perhaps the weakest which is a shame but it's a solid seven out of ten. If you want to pick holes this is going to provide a few but otherwise just go for the ride.
I've watched lots of thrillers and they all follow a very similar formula. That's the same of this show except there is an unexpected twist at the end of the second episode, they tell you who the killer is. I wasn't sure there was enough to warrant two more episodes but suffice to say it becomes a show about whether the heroine will survive the psycho in her midst. The lead actress is easy to watch and sort of an every-woman in that sense. As a fan of Outlander it's nice to see Lord John in a leading role rather than a guest part that never allows him to fully stretch his muscles. At 4 episodes it's just long enough without being too long.
I enjoyed this series and am sad it seems to be over, unless of course there's some streamer who decides to resurrect it. Entirely possible. I wasn't sure whether it was meant to be a slapstick comedy or a black comedy but I decided on the latter with some occasional serious moments too. The actress/writer is clearly talented and I hope to see her in other shows. Also praise for Kerr6 Armstrong, she is one of Australia's best and most underrated actors. I would totally watch a spin off based on her character. If you like Kath and Kim then I highly recommend you give this a go, different tone but similar humours..
