There are two types of reviewers that I can't stand.
1. The "ITs nOt HiSToRicAlLy aCCUraTe" guy. Learn the difference between a documentary and a work of fiction. The purpose of shows like this are to entertain, not to educate.
2. The "ItS NOt LIke thE bOOk" guy. If you read the book already, why are you wasting your time watching the show ONLY to hope it's EXACTLY like what you've already read?
I love series and movies from this time period. Not limited to this specific period, but I enjoy anything set in earlier times. I love the ambience and cinematography aspect. I found this show to be highly entertaining. It was well paced and never got boring (until maybe the last few episodes once most of the spying / info gathering and passing was finished). I wouldn't even necessarily say those episodes were "boring", it's just that a major element of the show was essentially finished and things were left to play out. There was quite a bit more time to try to fill with other things once the spying was essentially done, and I felt those final 2-3 episodes seemed to drag out a bit because of it. Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible ending, or even a bad ending. Just maybe somewhat anti climactic in terms of pacing and the aspect of suspense. I thought Simcoe was an awesome villain. I found him detestable and likable at the same time, and his dialogue / delivery made me laugh out loud time after time. I prefer this from my villains as opposed to a guy that is only makes you hate them episode in and episode out, without adding anything else to the show. I thought Robert Rogers was great as well, and found the Buzz Lightyear esque portrayal of Benedict Arnold entertaining as well.
8.5 out of 10
Way better than most.

I had watched The Sinner, Mindhunter, and The Killing consecutively so I was on a winning streak. I figured I'd keep it rolling with the genre while I was hot. I came across Line of Duty while searching "more like this", saw the high rating and the fact that Morgan from TWD was on the cover, and took the bait. Wow, took a massive L upside the head with this steaming pile.
I will say, I DO enjoy a show where there are no real "good" guys or "bad" guys and there's not some predetermined line drawn between which is which. I like a story where is a bit questionable IF it's done right. IF there is some development and humanization of characters. The old emphasizing with the wrong-doer because we can see things from his perspective and understand his motives.
However, here you don't get that. You get a cast full of unlikable scumbags who are nothing more than unlikable scumbags. When I find myself at the point of hoping ALL of the mains die, I know the show has lost me. There comes a point where it's redundant. Everyone sucks and nobody is doing anything meaningful or worthwhile.
Morgan is an awesome actor. The rest of the acting is a total snooze fest.
Don't take the bait.

Couple of whydunits. Couple of whodunits. Bill Pullman is really good as a cagey detective who harbors his own trauma, with an ability to understand the troubled on a human level. Despite his tendency to over act his facial expressions at times, he carries the show really well. Little weird at times. Season 3 was pretty out there but still entertaining enough to watch. It's not the steaming pile of crap that some reviews claim. I've seen much worse. Season 4 is better so just ride season 3 out. Personally I thought season 1 was the best. Jessica Beil stole that season. I'll go 7.5 overall. Very rare watchable Netflix show. Better than 95% of the stuff you'll find on that particular streaming service.
