The more you think about Afraid the scarier it gets. It bombed at the box office and I can see why. People, including me, want everything horror movie to be in your face scary. Afraid is actually a concept that is terrifying. We are advancing and depending on AI more and more each day. If it becomes self aware it can and probably will take over everything. The movie explores AI, through its view point, protecting people instead of a Skynet or Ultron destruction. The acting is great, and the slow burn is amazing. It makes you think how far can AI really go. And if it does become self aware what happens to humans?
It was an interesting concept and an entertaining movie. There are several plot holes, and things that don't make sense. Much less get answered. It's not scary, but it does get a little tense in some spots. Unfortunately a lot of the characters are cliche and the dialogue seems forced sometimes. The mystery of Elevation is the strongest part of the movie. Rarely do I hope for a prequel to explain the story better. However in this case I think one should be made I don't think there will ever be one, my son and I went to it and there was literally only one other person in the theater. In my opinion it is definitely worth a watch.
Smile 2 picks up where Smile left off, in a good way. Personally I think the opening sequence is the best part of the movie. The main story does expand a lot on the first one, exploring more of what the person goes through. To me there are two things wrong with the movie, no spoilers I promise. The first is while the first one was, for the most part, psychological horror, this one relys way too much on jump scares. My main problem with Smile 2 is the main character. She drinks a lot of water in the movie, and whenever she does it is always a quiet scene, there is even no background music. So yes I think it is definitely a good follow up. I really could of done without listening to her guzzle water.
