This movie might have worked as an independent film, but considering the resources available, it falls short in many ways.
One of its biggest flaws is the script. It sets up a compelling premise but rushes through key moments that should have been explored in depth. The transformation at the heart of the story happens too quickly, leaving little room for real development.
That said, the film does have strong moments, particularly in how it highlights the importance of acknowledging and grieving the disappeared. This aspect is handled with the sensitivity the topic deserves, especially given its impact across Latin America.
Overall, it's watchable but could have easily been 20 minutes shorter. Given its budget, it doesn't feel deserving of an Oscar or the nominations it received.

Oddity had a lot of potential with its premise, but the execution fell short. In trying to blend multiple genres, the film never fully committed to one, leaving the audience unable to feel true fear, suspense, or intrigue. The balance between the obvious and the mysterious was off, and the reliance on an absolute narrator dampened any sense of discovery.
That said, the story is entertaining enough, and the performances are fantastic across the board. The dynamic tension and witty exchange between Carolyn and Caroline delivered my favorite moment of the film. While Ted's choices felt overly predictable at times, this seems like a directorial decision more than a flaw in acting.
Visually, the film excels. The art direction, costuming, and set design are all clever and resourceful, making great use of limited locations to immerse viewers. Ultimately, Oddity may not leave a lasting impression, but it's an enjoyable watch for fans of genre mashups.

When it first came out, I watched it and thought it was decent, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. I liked it, but honestly, it felt a bit "meh."
Fast forward to recently, I decided to give it another go after chatting about it with some friends, and wow-I have to say, I appreciated it on a whole new level.
On rewatch, the psychological depth really stood out, and I noticed so many subtle details I missed the first time around. Natalie Portman's descent into madness is masterfully portrayed, and the way Aronofsky uses visual metaphors-like mirrors and doubles-to symbolize Nina's fractured psyche is genius!
The film plays beautifully with the unreliable narrator trope, blurring the lines between reality and delusion in a way that kept me captivated.
This time, I fully embraced the movie's unsettling exploration of perfectionism, identity, and repression. The tension builds like a slow-burn crescendo, mirroring the structure of a psychological breakdown.
This film is a masterpiece of psychological tension and symbolism-definitely worth a second watch!
