I was really looking forward to this as I loved the book. In general it was a good adaptation, but I don't think the acting was the best. Sadly multiple actors lacked depth and sincerity in their parts. Don't get me wrong, I think there was a lot of good acting (e.g. Cara and Naomi) but the two leads (Pip and Ravi) weren't particularly convincing. Emma's accent also falters often. There were details missed from the book which I suppose is necessary for a series, but the book felt more rich in detail and storyline quality. However, it is bingeworthy as the story is similar to the book, I just think it could have been (much) better.
Brie Larson absolutely smashes this. Her character progression is amazing and she is so convincing. It's hard to believe that the character is portrayed by an actress and is not a real person. She is that captivating. The story itself is intricate, beautiful and touching. Yet it can be so funny in places. Not many shows educate you as well as entertain you and I shall be hard pressed to find a series that I enjoy so much for a long time. It is a visually pleasing production and gives a voice to those more disadvantaged, but by making it seem so relatable and not just a 'thing of the past'. Really loved it and highly recommend.
