This is Ripley. Last survivor of the art of film.
With the turn of the millenium two things happened, mainly. Soul began oozing out of successive generations at a geometric rate. And the advent of streaming meant that one is freed to rise above ineptitude, glide over it until one spots some substance below. VLC, touch screens, and a right finger swipe.
As the years went by and the young inherited the means of production, the older swiped and swiped again. Failing to recognize themselves in the tale, they could at least rush to its end.
I managed about 15 staggered minutes out of 120. My finger be tired.
It's game over, folks. No use denying it any longer. We're out of soul.

I'm from the so called holy land. And I'm incensed. This one hit very close to... Home.
Soon after Oct 7 I began developing an immune response to Israeli media. They have, without a single beat missed, perfectly commoditized suffering. From interviewing Nova goers exiting the fields of blood. To the military explaining its ways and means in real time for the people. To the families of released hostages taking the limelight less than 24 hrs after homecoming. There is no pain that will not be framed so many times a second.
The damned excitement of the ABC crew at where to best place some cameras to show Jewish blood on German soil. This time, LIVE and in stereo. As if the drama was about the best production value, and the danger in missing a frame. Without. Skipping. A beat.
The question of having passed a point of no return is moot. We have been spiraling down the moral landscape for decades.
At least it's... Entertaining?

I've watched real time very consistently for years and have a lot of respect for Mr Maher, but not as much for his brand of humor and stand up.
Well, this was very enjoyable and had way more laugh out loud moments than I would have predicted. Bill seems very comfortable. His timing is mostly on point. The material is his usual metre but with some nice twists and very good presentation.
So, thank you Bill. See you next Friday night. Will be coming for a dose of common sense and with renewed interest in your funny bone.
70 characters left on the wall. If one of those characters should happen to fall...
