I was nervous for this one. I am not the best with subgenres of torture, extreme gore, and zombies. The majority of the violence does not match up with my style of horror, but I did watch the previous two movies through YouTube commentaries. The discourse around the experimental aspects of this film has risen to negative and head-scratching scenes, which I liked individually. I loved the opening sequence and the first half, as well as Aaron Taylor-Johnson's storyline and character arc, which was interesting. Then the second half takes a different turn that does not allow the combination or collaboration with the themes and tone of the first half to evolve as we follow this journey. The development of the character's history justifies the actions of the protagonist. With that said, I ultimately rate this film 2 out of 5.
Comparison between the director's first debut film and this follow-up film shows the similar themes the brothers love to explore, and the growth and development of the cinematography was elevated as it should be.
As I was viewing this movie, I was thinking about Talk to Me director's debut, and the comparison in themes and directing styles. Like Jordan Peele's directing style and hidden details that have the viewer engaged, The Philippou Brothers continue to have us on the edge of our seats with details in every frame shown and significance in message and story for every line spoken.
The tone has desperation and suffering on earth with amazing realism while showing the creative cinematography moments.
With color theory showing blue cool tones in the company of yellow accents and bright colors of the protagonist, versus lots of vibrant colors with dark shadowing.
The storytelling has bleakness in emotions, but the directors show real heart in the movie that had me sobbing at the end.

Screen Unseen for June 16th was 40 Acres, and AMC advertised this film for Juneteenth. I was debating whether I wanted to see it or not, and then I received the open time frame to watch this movie.
The engagement was compelling enough to keep my attention. Still, my reason for engagement was trying to understand the world-building and consequential behaviors through the protagonist continued to be mind-blowing. In her motherly role, she should have soft elements, especially with the exposition of history in the flashback scenes. By the time we view the ending scenes, the emotional finale did not leave a heart-warming impact or a specific message of family.
