A genuine work of art that everyone should watch at least once. I was a bit hesitant of a movie with no audio but it blew my expectations out of the water in the first 20 minutes. The animation style was different and not something I was used to but it was stunning. The rendering of the dogs was a bit meh for me but the scenery and the other animals were fascinating. Lack of dialogue really adds to the art of the film and ended up being one of the most memorable things because they had to rely on their art and story to make a phenomenal movie. I would watch this again I really think this movie would be even better a second time around.
Personally I think the film was okay but just wasn't my cup of tea. The performances of the actors were okay I just couldn't get past the pace of the story. I found that the film struggled to keep my attention as a consistent rate but again i think it goes back to preference. The ending was a bit surprising but I can't say I was too surprised by it. I will give credit to the message they were trying to convey in regard to "it's what's inside that counts". I can also give credit to the hair and makeup department because they did a phenomenal job with Sebastian Stan and his character. I also enjoyed the locations that they shot the film at and how they designed the sets.
This documentary was genuinely heartbreaking. I had heard of the residential schools and their atrocities but never knew the extent of it. Hearing first hand accounts and seeing the lasting impact the schools had on individuals and the generations that followed provided a new perspective on the issue. The only reason I did not give it a 10 was because it felt a little slow at times. Despite the pace the cinematography was stunning and it allowed the viewer time to soak it in and think. Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie wanted to raise awareness and educate others and they succeeded in their goal.
