Solid in a way, although this story is not really so sad or glamorous is it really, it's rather pathetic. What if this man had come from a council estate, hung out in the local hostel taking drugs and was trying to buy sex and company? I don't imagine this portrayal would be so absolutely dripping with sentimentality then, would it.
It is tough that this poor little aristocrat had expectations placed on him and lost a parent but let's face it, that is not so uncommon and not that harsh, given what some people have to endure. And, he could and did use his vast privilege and wealth to buy his way out of it after all! I call that a bonus!
What disappoints is how the film makers indulged this ridiculous narrative and allowed him to be painted as a lonely soul who, (ahhh..) just wants to be loved. While at least some of his ancestors did a few good deeds along the way, this man merely used his inheritance to exploit those less fortunate in order to fill the vacuum where his soul should be; which it seems the filmmakers were only too happy to buy into!
And let's not even get started on how the women in his life were portrayed I'll leave you to honk about this one!
