12 Years a Slave is one of the most powerful films I've seen. It tells the true story of Solomon Northup, a free Black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. The movie doesn't shy away from showing the brutality of slavery and some scenes are really hard to watch, but that's what makes it so important.
Chiwetel Ejiofor gives an incredible performance as Solomon. You can feel his pain, resilience, and hope in every scene. Michael Fassbender is terrifying as the cruel plantation owner, and Lupita Nyong'o is unforgettable in her role, which rightfully earned her an Oscar. The film is beautifully shot, and the music adds even more emotion to the story. It's not just a history lesson, it's a film that makes you reflect on injustice, resilience and humanity. It's not an easy movie to sit through, but it's one everyone should see at least once. It's heartbreaking, moving, and unforgettable.

Whiplash is one of the most intense movies I've ever seen even though it's about something as simple as a jazz drummer and his teacher. It follows Andrew a young drummer who wants to be the best and Fletcher his terrifying music instructor. The relationship between them is like a constant battle where you're never sure if Fletcher is pushing Andrew toward greatness or completely destroying him. Miles Teller is great as Andrew but J. K. Simmons completely steals the show. His performance as Fletcher is brutal and unforgettable. The way he shouts insults one second and goes quiet the next makes every scene feel like you're on edge. The movie is shot and edited so well that even if you know nothing about drumming it feels like watching an action film. The final scene is one of the most powerful endings I've seen and leaves you questioning if all the pain and pressure were worth it. It's not an easy film to watch because it's stressful and sometimes uncomfortable but that's exactly why it works. Whiplash is about ambition sacrifice and the cost of chasing perfection and it will stay with you long after it ends.
Little Miss Sunshine is such a funny and heartwarming movie. It follows a dysfunctional family who all pile into a beat-up yellow van to take their young daughter Olive to a beauty pageant. On the surface it seems like a road trip comedy but it's really about how messy families can be and how they still stick together through everything. The cast is amazing. Steve Carell plays the depressed uncle, Greg Kinnear is the stressed-out dad, Toni Collette is the mom trying to hold everyone together, and Abigail Breslin is perfect as Olive. Everyone has their own issues but the way their stories mix creates moments that are hilarious and really emotional.
The humor is dark at times but it feels real and never forced. The film balances heavy themes like failure and mental health with awkward, laugh-out-loud moments. By the end you really feel the bond between the family and it leaves you with a weird mix of sadness, joy and hope.
It's one of those movies that makes you laugh but also makes you think about what really matters. Honestly it's a must-watch.
