I love Kate beckensale movies since underworld but I do not know why she sounds so different in this movie. Was she trying an accent, is she a smoker or sick during production? It did not match the performance and there are scenes where you could tell they dubbed in lines after the filming.

The plot is nonsense and they tried to add too many twists at the end. I expected more from the director having been behind Peppermint and Taken which I loved.

I wanted to like it but there were too many issues I couldn't look past.

It was shot well for an action movie with a lot of cuts. I get she is older and probably can't do the John wick one shots so I will give it a pass.

If you want a movie to just enjoy/kill time with them give it a watch. Try not to let the little things bother you and turn your brain off and maybe you can enjoy it more than me.

A better version of this movie I recommend is The Protoge with Maggie Q. It does this female spy/hitman theme better with a better cast.

Also it was sad this was Ray Stevenson's last role I think. I enjoyed watching him again so there is that.

There were a lot of positives for this movie and I want to get them out of the way.

The casting was great and it did not take anything away from the movie. Pete Holmes played a nice guy creep and was able to show off his range.

I listened to the podcast he did with Anna and can respect how her personal experience drove her acting in the movie. She made choices that made sense and I liked it more than her last abusive relationship movie. If you have time watch Pete and Anna's podcast which gives you insights to the movie.

It was shot well and there were no pretentious shots or choices. For being set in the 70s it comes off as genuine for the time.

It is simple and a quick movie which gets everything across without needing too much investment. On the other hand I wouldn't have minded an extra 20 minutes to fully flesh out the killer because the jumps in time were a little jarring. Anna did it to condense the story but if I had notes I would want extra time with Anna or the killer in the beginning all at once before shifting to the other before the dating game. I do not know if the shorter time was a financial decision or Netflix wanting shorter movies.

There is a sense of dread and worry for Anna's character which is difficult to do when the violence was lesser than some other true crime movies which are more bloody and violent.

At the end I wanted to see the footage or pictures from the true story. They just had text over landscape shots which seemed like a wasted opportunity to really connect to the true story.

This movie should also be an advertisement for women to carry mace or some sort of weapon. I am a man and do not pretend to know what it is like being a woman but I have gifted mace, self defense keychains, tasers etc to female friends. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I think Anna will do better if she directs another movie but I hope her next one will be a comedy or something like Mr. Right which is a classic in my opinion. Still this is worth a watch if you like true crime or Anna Kendrick. I try to support new directors because they deserve a chance to get better and replace some of the truly awful directors working today. I see potential in her work so I hope people do not grade it too harshly compared to a James Cameron movie.
