We rarely get to see two narcissists in a relationship, and this movie clearly shows the dynamic between the two and why they would usually repel each other in real life. Someone commented that the most likely scenario for the boyfriend would be to leave her under such circumstances, however, in the scene when they are riding in a bus, we can see him acting as a caring boyfriend when he notices he is being observed by another passenger, which shows that people desperate for attention get their kicks out of any kind of attention. I don't think the writer intended this to be any kind of commentary on modern standards, but rather a depiction of inner emptiness that can never be filled, irregardless of measures taken to do so. I expected more from the ending.
I was surprised when I saw the movie ratings. It seems to me that people have clearly missed the point because the message that director was trying to send was quite clear.
The ending of the film, which many complain about, is actually the reason here for a higher rating. Usually it is the ending that leaves me wanting for more, but this time I had the feeling that nothing was missing. Also, complaints about the display of nudity were a bit out of place in this one, considering the topic of the film.
I have no doubt that this film will be a cult classic.
Demi was excellent as usual, and the film is a serious award contender. Believe the hype.

Em's unsettling choice to take over someone else's life (Em from another reality), rather than reconcile with her own reality, brings a whole new level of psychological horror. It's like the movie taps into a collective fear of not just losing control, but of feeling inadequate or unfulfilled in our own lives, and then taking extreme measures to fix it. There's this underlying commentary on loneliness and dissatisfaction. The film mirrors how modern life can lead people to chase illusions of perfection, sometimes at the expense of their own well-being. The ending is a little haunting, playing on the idea that there might never be a perfect version of reality to settle into.
