Only give it three stars cause of the set designers and composers who put a remote of thought into this dumpster fire.
The acolyte, within its first two episodes, manages to lay down a foundation that lowers your expectations and then *somehow* continues to lower them.
The acolyte attempts to convey a mysterious, morally ambiguous narrative through this tragedy, which occurred approximately two decades ago. But due to Star Wars its inability to due to moral grayness outside of Andor, it falls flat.
It tries to portray the witches and Jedi as being both in the wrong, but when you learn how they held kids, hostage, and used their powers to permanently traumatize a bunch of teenage padawans, among other heinous acts, it is kind of hard not to side with the jedi.
The protagonistic twins are just straight-up boring, they barely do anything until the writers remember to move the plot forward which it does at a pace so inconsistent it makes it harder to watch than any of the other shows we have gotten in the past.
I think up until this point, all Star Wars shows (besides Andor, which feels like the exception now rather than the standard) we have had are deeply flawed but with enough redeeming qualities that made me give them the benefit of the doubt and enjoy them for what they were.
This, however, and The book of Boba Fett, show an increasing trend in a total lack of nuance among these shows that has now reached the point of breaking them.
A total misfire. If you want good High Republic content, stick to the books and Fallen Order games.
