Ended really poorly...let down by plot holes all over the place, some really bad acting in places, unbelievable storylines and behaviour from the main characters and supporting characters and all kinds of subplots that went nowhere, fast.
It seems like it should've played out in six parts rather than four, the ending was totally ridiculous and left a lot of questions unanswered. Buildup flashbacks are all well and good but at some point we deserve the logical 'full picture' of the past. Otherwise it makes not a lot of sense...
I thought the young man played the torn up, angry teenager really well and he will go far as an actor. Just a bit wasted on this series.
I can't say I hated it, it had a good start and build which I enjoyed for a while but it all felt messy, a bit thrown together and rushed at the end.

Interesting for the most part and most definitely worth watching but it isn't particularly effective or as 'revelatory' as one might expect.
The recordings are truly awful, with some of the worst voice actors they could've found. Really dilutes the tension of key moments and sounds like a Ladybird cassette tape from the 1980's.
Could they really not have found better voice actors? It detracts...in a big way. It would've also been great to explore more of Maxwell's involvement with the KGB and other intelligence organisations but nevermind. Definitely worth a watch, just don't expect to be thrilled by it.

It's very bad...Eddie is pretty good as usual (although he mumbles a lot, which can be infuriating at times) but the supporting cast are weak, with performances primary-school-nativity poor and it's, frankly, well...a bit boring.
Like others have said, the original seventies film is totally gripping and is a great example of a well-made thriller. This is neither...soap-opera family issues make it even less enjoyable...and as for the frankly pretentious, irritating choices of music (including the absolutely awful 'Bondesque' theme tune) well...there are very few positives.
The plot is a bit silly, dialogue is daft and unconvincing and things move far too slowly...I don't like to criticise actors but I have to say that Lakshana Lynch is woefully miscast in her role and unfortunately tries way too hard, which does not help one bit. Hardly anything feels right with this programme...the few moments where I'd start to feel engaged would be interrupted by the aforementioned musical numbers, detracting from the action or suspense - something the director of the original film totally opted not to utilise...all in all it's very poor and doesn't thrill, entertain or grip.
