If I were to write a movie about the life of Kris Kringle, it would be fantasy, not documentary.
A film about the Easter Bunny would not be labeled as a documentary.
Conjecture would be a good word for someone who's very existence is still unproven.
Faith, not fact, does not make a documentary, it makes a cult.

Why is everyone so accepting of the incredible inaccuracy of this movie, when The Man himself was adamantly against it?
Seriously, there's pretty near nothing accurate about this. His father, his marriage, his brother... Why, the very ridge itself is portrayed as some Titanic-killing iceberg of a cliff, when it's actually like maybe 10 yards high.
Why, as a society, have we collectively decided that fiction representing reality is so acceptable? "Based on a true story" should be illegal. Either it's a true story, or it's not. There is no reason to make the changes that were done in this film other than awards.

Never, ever trust a SEAL.
They have a LOT to atone for.
"Once Bunker 1 was clear, Chapman remained inside Bunker 1 while his SEAL teammates successfully retreated down the mountain leaving Chapman in the bunker to die alone. Despite being mortally wounded, Chapman awoke at sunrise and engaged enemy combatants at Bunker 2 in order to protect his countrymen who had arrived in a Chinook helicopter that returned to capture the summit the following morning."
The SEALs fought harder to deny recognition of Chapman than they did to save him. They refused to acknowledge their failure, even though the entire thing was caught on video.
