As several reviewers have pointed out,
this is a biting commentary on the "tell-all" book,
wickedly funny and profoundly serious at the same time.
The repercussions of a roman a clef set in Cabot Cove are at first humorous, but turn deadly when someone in town objects violently to the scrutiny.
Jessica's discussion with the author points out the rather self-serving, narcissistic motives behind her book, something one might suspect of the majority of entries in the genre.
It's a candid dialogue that raises valid, and legitimately cynical, questions.
Still, the episode has some of the best one-liners of the series!
An extremely entertaining coating containing a thought provoking message - something at which MSW excelled.

A thoroughly enjoyable episode using Jay Leno's character to surprising and effective advantage.
Won't spoil the plot twist, suffice to say Mr. Leno gets a chance to show that he's not just a comedian, he's matured into a really good actor.
The message is heartfelt and positive.
The secondary plot line is ok, with a satisfying denouement, just wish the Jen character would have dropped the phony broken English accent long before this - her storylines suffered because of it IMO (it's completely gone in her subsequent appearances in season 9, thankfully).
The later series episodes increased use of chuck, joe, and ed to play off of mike kept things fresh and interesting.
While a slight change of focus (in some ways welcome - vanessa for congress??), you can tell they all enjoyed working together for real and the buddy-style plots are well done.
Enjoyed this solid and unexpectedly poignant entry very much.
