I'm surprised they managed to be so funny without Frank. It's goofy and wild and it may not work for some because it's ridiculous and over the top, but this is some of the funniest always sunny I've seen. It's nothing like any of the other episodes. The comedy is completely different than a regular episode, but it works. Each character plays a character at dinner, but the characters they're playing match with their personalities perfectly.
While the show itself is pretty good, and it is always nice to see our favorite killer back on screen, it feels like just another attempt at finding a suitable ending to this series. The general reaction to the main show and new bloods endings were quite poor, and this feels like another attempt to get another ending.
I don't love that Dexter is still alive. That was the ending they chose in new blood, and I think they need to stick with that regardless of the general public's opinion. I think the prequel idea was a great idea to keep the story alive and the universe still alive. But similarly to game of thrones, which had a very bad ending originally, they decided to go a prequel route as opposed to doing something unrealistic to try and get a more satisfying ending.
It makes the events of the main show and new blood much less meaningful when there's now an expectation, that even if they aren't happy with the way it ends, they'll get more content. I enjoy the show as a stand alone, but it's just hard to get past the fact that they're undoing the events of the whole last series.

It feels oddly political. It's not necessarily a good or bad thing, in the scheme of a children's show I don't want to worry about it, but it just seems weird and some of the writing seems a little off center to try and push across more political ideas. It's still a funny show and has a similar gumball charm. It wasn't an episode like they used to be, with some animation differences, but it's a fine episode and I'm glad we're getting more gumball.
