Unfortunately there is an unreasonable number of kitschy bottle episodes which just undermine an otherwise quality show (I'd guess about half of them).
The serious episodes that are contributing to a long and gripping sci-fi are engaging and could contend with other comparable greats. The episodes that lean into pointless tropes are some of the worst stories in Star Trek history.

Unexplained happenings, jumps ahead in personal relationships, a pointless dream sequence, and leaps in logic. Had me wondering if I somehow missed an episode somewhere. Really tries to be "cerebral and artsy" at the cost of the story.
This is giving me "Lost" vibes, like the writers just don't know how to explain all the weird stuff, so they just keep doing more weird stuff because that's what the people like. Hopefully the writers just don't write themselves into a corner because they can't deliver a satisfying ending that explains all the weird things...
The saving grace was the ending was pretty good, but admittedly it feels a little cheapened by Sherlock levels of deduction needed to get us their.
