Hope of Escape is a striking and refreshing film that offers a nuanced portrayal of slavery and freedom, which is refreshing since I feel a lot of Hollywood movies focus too much on victimization. This movie I felt, had more of an intimate approach that focused on the internal and emotional struggles of the characters which, in this case, can be just as or even more powerful than graphic imagery of slavery.
The story and ending resonated with me on multiple levels, and the plot flows very well. I really do admire the unique approach to this story and the director did a fine job turning the book into a movie.
What sets Hope of Escape apart is its exploration of the "above-ground Underground Railroad," which I appreciate the filmmakers did to bring more awareness about the important of it and the role it playing in helping people escape slavery. This movie is a fresh narrative focus on slavery and the struggle to obtain freedom, and the performances perfectly captured that said struggle.

There are a lot of these movies, but sometimes they take more risks and make things more interesting than other similar storylines.
This movie tries a bit too hard standing out with no memorable characters, the cast doesn't fit together, either.
It falls flat on almost every level. The plot, is as generic as it gets. Like I said, a well-worn plot. The main character is as shallow as the plot itself, and any attempts to make him "relatable" or "complex" feel forced and hollow.
Too many moments in the story are also painfully slow, especially the beginning. Would not recommend and not sure what the director meant to do here.

As if hiring an unknown (failed) p0rn star isn't weird enough, the acting in this is terrible. Not that I expected the acting to be great and I know people from those backgrounds don't go far in the industry, but it's like the actors are trying to be bad. The lead in this the blonde is not nice to look at, does fit the role of an influencer with the surgery and I guess tried.
The plot is also too predictable and people don't care about influencers enough for this to be interesting not sure why or how I stumbled upon this but I wish I could get even just those few minutes of my life back. What happened to short films?
