Indian audiences surely need to raise their standards of movie watching. Mediocrity is so overrated in Bollywood. Filmmakers can make any crap, if they are able to create a buzz around the film, the film will earn decent money. This is why Bollywood keep producing such craps like War and War 2. Logic doesn't exist in these movies. I am all in for a little over the top stupidness for entertainment but the whole movie is nothing but a 2 and half hours marathon of stupidity. Hrithik Roshan has a lot of talent but he needs brains to chose movies, he is very very old school, repetitive and boring now. Every movie of his has the same kind of dance numbers, same kind of acting and the same way of overhyping his looks. I was laughing the whole movie, War 2019 was heights of stupidity and Tiger Shroff was unintentionally funny with his laughable acting. War 2 just beat War in that sense.
While it's a remake, it's great that it sticked to the original content and did not go anywhere else. The live action version is what it was supposed to be, just a little different visually from the original but with the same plot scene by scene and it worked. It has brought the same feelings as it brought in 2010. Not for unimaginative individuals for sure, they won't like it. It's a human story of emotions and feelings which we all have seen or read so many times, it still managed to be different by being in a mediaeval setting, in its treatment of relationships, the bond between dragons and humans, the top notch animation which did a lot of things differently and pioneered a lot of new ways in animation. You root for Hiccup, for Astrid in a way you don't get to do in other movies. A lot of viewers saw Hiccup in them, who just don't want to be cruel in this cruel world, who just don't want to follow the norms, who want to be different from the crowd. Hiccup was different, he stood for his beliefs and for his ideas and proved that being different has it's perks. The movie glorified being different. How to train your dragon was a trendsetter for sure and all the love for the movie is well deserved.
Sorry, saying it didn't do anything different is a little unfair to be honest. It did a whole lot of things differently back in 2010.
