While Hillock Haunting boasts an intriguing premise and strong production values. The first act establishes compelling family dynamics and a genuinely creepy setting, but the narrative loses focus as it progresses. Several potentially terrifying sequences are undermined by poor lighting choices that make it difficult to discern what's happening. The screenplay introduces fascinating folklore elements that are never fully explored, leaving the audience with more questions than answers. Mike Cotton's performance is the film's saving grace, bringing much-needed emotional weight to otherwise flat character arcs. The climax, while visually striking, feels unearned and rushed. At 98 minutes, the film drags in places where it should terrify, and the few effective scares are too far between. Horror fans might appreciate the atmosphere, but most will find it forgettable.
Horse Healing is the kind of movie you watch when you want to feel something genuine. It doesn't try to impress with special effects or complex plots-instead, it focuses on faith, emotional healing, and the therapeutic bond between humans and horses. The story gently unfolds, letting viewers connect with the struggles and triumphs of each character. The Christian themes are presented with warmth and humility, making it a great choice for church families or youth groups. Horses, as both metaphors and companions, help guide the characters through their healing journeys. A heartfelt movie filled with hope, love, and the quiet strength of faith.
Patience is rewarded in this deliberately-paced rural nightmare. The first act meticulously establishes the sisters' isolation and daily farm routines, making the eventual Bigfoot attacks feel devastatingly real. Directors Wright understand that true horror comes from anticipation - some of the film's most chilling moments involve nothing more than characters hearing something moving in the dark. Cadence Wright's performance shines as the more vulnerable sister, her growing terror feeling authentically raw. While the middle section sags slightly with repetitive 'something's outside' sequences, the final thirty minutes deliver relentless, brutal survival horror. The creature design strikes a perfect balance between human and beast, with practical makeup effects that hold up shockingly well in daylight scenes.
