That sums it up alright. At times, some of the ideas for the episodes are really innovative and some of the jokes are truly out there yet they surprisingly managed to keep it believably grounded throughout. There isn't much character growth but the series was also sadly short lived. The performance by the actors was great, all of them truly did a fantastic job.

What kept the show from being great? I guess just being overly reliant on bad people to tell your story. Maybe people found it hard to cheer for them. Maybe the 'will they won't they' with this particular couple fell flat for people. I don't know. I had a good time with the show and I think most people would unless you're maybe a little uptight. The tone is brash but also in an endearing way. Give it a shot. I think it aged well unless you're really into modern sensitivity then avoid this or prepare to be scarred for life, kid.

Well, the story setup and the fiction of this tiny world they created is very impressive. Some events in the series are truly well thought out and make you think. The way they play with ideas of identity and personhood reminds me of discussions during the late 90s when cloning become a thing.

Now, when the show is good it's really good but it also has a tendency to embellish it's narrative with freaky and let's say 'overly artistic' shots and scenes that don't really help. Some people might dig it, I'm sure they do but to me, if you had kept it simple, the show would've been better. Like the evil in the banality of the whole thing is more than enough and would've spoken louder if not drowned in these ridiculous one-off scenes where something wacky happens.

Well, I did it. I semi forced myself to watch the entire show. I skipped a lot to be honest and I also watched it at 1.5x speed because neither the dialogues nor the acting are really special to make you sit down and pay close attention. I kept watching mostly because I really love The Corner and The Wire and I thought it might get going eventually and then I was just too stubborn to quit.

The show just doesn't say anything and I mean it. Everything is explored at a surface level because the burden of the story is split on so many character who individually have next to nothing going on and are also rather unlikeable. Nobody went anywhere interesting except Antoine for a little while with the kids. But everyone else, most of all probably Sonny, were absolutely uninteresting and extremely repetitive just going in circles.
