The original anime adaptation was great, it's the first adaptation of Kenshin that I fell in love with. Then, I watched the movies with Satoh Takeru were awesome. Satoh will Always be the best live action Kenshin and Battousai. I was itching and hoping for a newer version anime for Kenshin. I haven't read the manga, but I understand they strayed pretty far from the source material in the 1996 series. Im hoping with this new version, they'll stay true to Kenshin's story and have more of a balance of characters. Im on episode 11, and so far there's more chemistry between Kenshin and Kaoru, Kenshin and Sano and all together the bond between all of them as friends. The Jin-e arch was amazing in this version, gave me chills seeing him revert to Battousai. Which, I think the actor they chose for the sub version does an incredible job as Kenshin and Battousai. Overall, I think this is a worthy, and very very good remake.
The first two episodes left me very conflicted about how to feel. On a one hand, I was a big fan of the original show and it's nice seeing them together again. I think they handled the Samantha situation with more heart and class than I thought they would. I don't agree with how Steve and Miranda are raising Brady. There's a lot of gender this, racial that. Even some anti trump stuff. They've got the CoVid situation in there. I don't want to give away a pretty huge spoiler, but really? The very first episode? So quick. So rushed. Sure the second episode has a lot of heart, but i just couldn't believe it. I knew they would do it, and they actually did it. I'm torn on what to think. If this is just going to be a new version of the show with social justice b.s I'm out. Why does it have to infiltrate every single thing we listen to it watch. The original show pushed the boundaries at the time, but this was one step away from constantly pushing it in your face. Not sure if I want to continue to the next episode.
I didn't expect much from this show at all. In fact I expected to not even finish the first episode. But boy I'm glad I did.
This show surpassed my expectations in the very best way. The show is original and very well written and paced out. Song Joon-ki is awesome, amazing and sexy as hell as Vincenzo. He embodies the role whole heartedly. He makes you laugh, makes you cheer him on to kick ass and tugs on your heart strings. I was incredibly impressed with his skill and dedication to this role. The supporting cast are endearing and throughout the series you get to know a little bit about each one. There is surprisingly a lot of humor, which is honestly a relief because without it the show would be very dark. If I had one gripe it would be sometimes I thought the episodes where a tad long. But on the other hand, you just get to spend more time with Vincenzo and his ragtag group of friends so didn't mind it.
This show is just flat out awesome. So much better that whatever Hollywood is peddling out. I hope there's a season two, this show totally deserves it!
