One of the most tense episodes I've ever seen... even though it was obvious what the outcome was going to be. How do you do that? The episode gives us from the beginning a master class in cinematography and acting. I think this is the episode with the best use of music in the whole series. If this is the standard of quality that the rest of the season is going to be then I'm very excited to see how it all unfolds.
This episode was great and the final scene was epic!! I really dont mind CGI titans, Mappa showed they can pull off good looking scenes even with CGI. BUT. Their 2D titans are on a different level and if they stick with that, it would have WITs level of action. The season, for the time given, is a 10/10. (come on guys, not only Mappa had less time than most studios have for normal anime, they had to animate ATTACK ON TITAN, which takes longer to animate than normal shows, and had to do 16 episodes). But, being objective, id give this season a 8.5/10. Animation is not everything in this show, but it sells the impact of certain scenes. I dont hate the fight with the warhammer titan like most people do, but it could have been much better. Something that I really didnt like was the musical choice. Im not talking about yOu sEe biG gIrl. They had some fire new tracks for this season, but I felt that they kept playing them in every episode. I mean, they have an enormous catalog of soundtracks from past seasons, so even if they only have a few new tracks, there is no true reason for the directors to choose the same songs all over again (thats why i really liked the music used in the zekes backstory episode). These two are my only "complaints". I think Mappa is doing an outstanding job with their resources. We are about to enter to the true peak of AOT, so im hopping Mappa can deliver now that they have more time for production.
This season has been great but this is where things are gonna pick up. One of the best episodes of the whole show.
