Firstly, I'll state I thought Moana 2 was more pleasing and enjoyable than Wicked! There, Ive said it!
So even though this looked made for a Supa-young audience I was still on board and love seeing animation at the cinema, I found the style of Dogman a mish-mash, not quite one thing not quite another like Postman Pat met Spider-Man, but then they panicked and chucked more and more ideas at it, like Wreck it Ralph meets Lego movie meets Sunday morning cartoon Nickelodeon etc etc etc it's a sugar rush of a film, and I came out feeling quite queasy, I didn't love this, I didn't hate it, nothing gets time to land and nothing gets time to sink, it seems edgy but it's actually supa safe, I found the themes of family deeply troubling tbh, I'm not sure where to even pick the bones out of it, because it's really quite dark, even the premise of this Dogman is a bit twisted, in essence, in short it's a Sundae mess of a film, that said there were so many jokes some have to make you laugh, and it's relentlessly bravura in just goofing and jiving on pastiches and references, but I just thought the family thing was a huge clunking fur ball that stuck in my throat, and Petey's Dad might be one of the biggest cartoon downer I've ever seen, I came out thinking what did I just watch? And I didn't feel particularly better for it, childrens fayre made very much by adults, maybe it was cathartic for Peter Hastings, but not the time or the place for me, then again when I look at his back catalogue maybe I should have known it wasn't gonna have the notes I was looking for, and in future I think his projects might be a hard pass for me, I'm not saying there isn't a lot to enjoy, by any means, it's just I felt like I was force fed by a Catoonarang 2000!

So, ...it's not a movie, ...
personally I really just enjoy the spectacle of manga and animation in general on the big screen and demon slayer never disappoints for energy style, visual bravura, and spectacle, and that's why I gave it 6 stars,
but it's not a movie, people on here saying Wots the problem, errrmm, it's just an etiquette thing I guess, if you go to the movies you expect to see a movie, I certainly haven't ever before in the past 40 years, you can put two old episodes and another two episodes, and rehash several montages of backstory, and you get a gloriously nutty filler.
But it ain't a movie!!!! FFS!!!!
In fairness...They don't even attempt to make a movie, it felt like when you used to record stuff on VHS, I was half expecting somebody's brothers wedding and the best man's speech, that might have been a nice radical sardonic touch, still enjoyed it more than most of the tawdry dross coming out of Hollywood, walked out of Argyle, but I know when I've been stung, and this is a sting of a movie, so I can appreciate both the disappointment and even hurt of some fans and cinema goers, what I will say is that it sets it all up nicely for the next film, which should be an absolute banger.
So 1 for this, and a slap on the wrist 9 for visual feast Bring on the real Demon Slaying mayhem and style next time out!
