I understand people in 1968 were new to this kind of stuff, probably found anything space related fascinating but this movie is just terrible. Yes special effects are great, but that's it, nothing else. If there's anything good about the plot or the story, it is completely ruined by the pace and time wasting element of this movie. There are so many scenes without people talking it's like half of the movie is mute but without the captions. It's like, for you to somehow appreciate this movie, you have to be on some on some kind of drug that will keep you stuck to the screen every second of the movie.
