This is a movie that you'd watch if you're looking for a deeper experience. If you're seeking something with a message that needs to be analyzed after. Not just action on a screen. Which was exactly what I was looking for. Something to enlighten me and give me a new perspective. I still don't fully understand the movie. But the cancer analogy is beautiful. To try and represent the biological process of a disease through art. I think it's unique and makes you ponder on the mysteries of nature. And how we just don't understand the full extent of being human. It's so interesting. Not to mention it is a beautiful film to look at. L found it to be a little dull and dry in the beginning, but not enough for me to turn it off. And I'm glad I kept watching.
Malena features beautiful visuals that captivated me. Very sandy and rustic buildings. It was a joy to look at up until a very heart wrenching scene. This movie sheds light on herd mentality, jealousy and lust. How you can be a target of hatred for something you can't control. It was emotional to watch and makes you want to lose faith in humanity. The men can't control themselves, the women are dangerously jealous and this young woman suffers for it. It puts things into perspective. Renato was the symbole of hope that at least Malena's truth was recorded and protected somehow. I was pleasantly surprised by the end of the movie and I think it leaves food for thought. How destructive gossip and rumours are. How people feel violence is suddenly acceptable if "enough people" are participating. How blame is quick to be shifted onto the woman. Pretty is not always a privilege.
