It's rare that I start writing a review while the film is still playing but my goodness I needed to do something else while this utter dribble was playing.
Based on what I'd heard I was expecting a children's film and I was ok with that, the original Reeves superman films were children's films and were (mostly) great. But this, this is not a children's film it's pure stupidity that plumbs new depths of dumbed down.
This iteration of superman is a veritable orgy of awful; egregiously excessive use of mostly badly done CGI, idiot level scriptwriting, woeful charmless acting (but to be fair Lawrence Olivier couldn't deliver those lines) and stupid motiveless characters.
However the real standout for me was how pathetically stupid it was, it's like the director decided to go for the lowest common denominator and made a cabbage that denominator.
It's painful to watch.

With the state of the entertainment industry today people would be better served by owning a collection of the best movies and boxsets and watching them on rotation.
The Wire is one box set that deserves to be in that rotation. It is the absolute pinnacle of crime\police television dramas. It may never be bettered, indeed with streaming and algorithms today it will almost certainly not be.
It's intelligent, complex, well written, well acted television with high production values. When people talk of the golden era of television they are thinking about the Wire, the Sopranos, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, Six Feet Under, Mad Men, Battlestar. It was a time when the talent, the production technology, social and political constraints waned and the money all came together in perfect confluence.

When there's such a rich pool of stuff to go after it was a strange choice to make such a very half hearted effort going after tech bros. Meta and apple are clearly the only tech companies that won't sue, the sieg heiling car bro is tenuously represented using Randy as a proxy and the erstwhile book salesman from the jungle river gets a pass altogether. Cowardly and must do better. There were a couple of jokes that landed but they were straight up toilet humour rather than the satire we are all hoping for. Disappointing.
