This film is really just a feel good story and I loved it. It was simple in its storytelling which mad it have a certain charm to it. The movie is predictable at every turn, the acting is average (except for Murphy who's trying his heart out), the direction and production design wasn't impressive really, it just got the job done. The real reason to watch this film is its overall message, to all beginning filmmakers and even people who just want to believe in themselves, that if you work your ass off you will accomplish what you have in mind. The film didn't do it in a cheesy way either. To put the cherry on top Eddie Murphy's performance was awesome and even though its not the best I've seen this year, it was probably the most entertaining movie.

Long story short my title says it all. Alfonso Cuaron has masterful direction with long takes and excellent movement, followed up by beautiful cinematography but it's sadly wasted on a dumb script. The characters are thin, dialogue is cheeky and wooden, and the events that occur just have you asking questions. It's not the events that occur to move the plot forward but it's like the Cuaron brothers decided to shove dumb action scenes in this movie to build tension, when this could've been put towards the characters. Also the music is the most generic score I've heard in a big budget movie like this, it sounds like they bought it off a stock music website. Overall this movie isn't really worth the watch other than how they filmed it, putting the camera in creative spots.

This movie is excellent in every way, I was afraid of it being a lot like Goodfellas but it wasn't at all thankfully. I don't want to spoil the film so I'll keep it brief. All the technical aspects to a film are there; acting, direction, music, writing etc. but what really surprised me was how invested this movie kept me in it's characters. Most of the film is these guys talking and you really get to know these characters, which really invests you in the story. It was also very interesting to learn about Jimmy Hoffa and how important he was, since I knew nothing about him before hand. This film is brilliant and trying to find flaws in it is like a needle in a haystack, one of Scorsese's best.
