Don't look up is a pertinent Satire for a misinformed apathetic society mindlessly consuming palatable misinformation. Many critics are oversimplifying the plot, saying its about the climate crisis. It is foremost about Misinformation and the mishandling of societal wellbeing. It is about media & social media consumption and how those who defend reason, facts, and science are treated as a pariah in favor for light hearted frivolities. It showcases many of the missteps taken during recent presidencies, a global pandemic, and the numerous climate disasters of recent years. It is a cautionary tale, reminding us that peer reviewed facts should not be dismissed & profit driven corporations do not have humanities best interest at heart. And lastly it reminds us all that we really do have a great thing going on, and like every civilization before us, we risk losing it all if we continue ignoring our codependence on our planet and each other for survival.
Asimov left us wanting more and this show is above expectations. First, I want to commend the retelling for taking a story devoid of a female presence and injecting powerful female leads. Thank you. All set design, costuming, makeup, and visual effects are beautifully futuristic, classic, and dystopian. A story about history and civilization at it's core is now a riveting drama about power, truth, endurance, perseverance, and humanity. I can't wait to see more.
Truly impressed with how this story was told, this is mostly an action adventure (and a period piece), and it is a thrilling ride. Rewatching the whole series again I just have to say Sato Takeru performs this character to perfection. Shy, bold, agile, flexible, disciplined his performance is humble, impressive, and thrilling!
