I love Amy, I really liked Trainwreck and I Feel Pretty, but this movie is not good. It's not the worst, it's even occasionally funny, but for most of the time the jokes don't work and are cringy. I liked the idea of the story but I wish the writers could concentrate more on the heartwarming part, of female friendship and the story of the main character who really wants to have a baby but it's her best friend who gets pregnant. This had a potential to become a classic like Braidsmaids or Bride Wars, and that's what I've been thinking throughout the movie: what a shame, what a waste of potential.
There are so many bad movies out there recently that I really don't have high expectations anymore so 4 stars are really generous.
They made few bad decisions during the production, the main one was Adam Sandler's voice. Sandler plays here a town's Idiot and the comedy is, to put it simply, stupid. And I can enjoy stupid and ridiculous but this was cringy stupid, not funny at all. Which is really disappointing because putting this aside - the movie had a big potential. It's visually appealing, well made, has a good cast and involves classic halloween nostalgia. I think that the spooky moments were really good, there were some heartwarming moments typical for family friendly movies which I also enjoyed. They could cut down on the comedy and add more of spookiness, and this would have a potential of becoming a halloween classic like "Hocus Pocus".

I'm writing this review to warn people who were victims of abuse or a s*xual assault that this movie might trigger you. The movie is advertised as a comedy but not everyone will be able to enjoy it. The story starts well but when we get to the scenes with the main character's elderly mother, this is when the movie stopped being funny to me and was really painful to watch. So if you're looking for a movie to have a nice evening with a few laughs, you might want to avoid this one. And I understand that everyone has a different sense of humour but there are some topics that certain people will never be able to laugh about. I wish I was informed of the nature of the movie before I watched it.
