We are being shown this series on BBC which has always had a good sense of morality but all this show is doing is, like many, encouraging people to be dishonest, to lie and be rewarded for it and we wonder why society is going wrong. The message given is that it's okay to blatantly lie if money is involved. The scenery is great hence 2 stars but when we ask ourselves why politicians, corporations and individuals feel it's perfectly okay to lie the message in this series is that it doesn't matter if you are untrustworthy in order to cash in. No wonder people don't feel safe when the strong message is to walk over people and feel contented that lies have got a huge reward. The same with traitors. The series also rewards those that have been affluent enough to have travelled Europe.
I just found this series by chance 7 years after it was made. Daniel Bruhl is excellent as the Alienist and he is captivating alongside the also very talented Luke Evans. They kept my interest and whilst the female, Dakota Fanning is a good character, she was not what kept me watching, the two main men were. They bounced off each other and all the other characters so well. I have only watched the first series so far and the storyline kept me asking questions and wanting to watch the next episode as soon as possible. More from Bruhl and Evans please, they deserve a series of their own based on these two characters, I would certainly watch it.
Idris Elba plays Idris Elba, nothing different, it's a comedy role but Elba is better in serious stories. John Cena plays the same comedic character that he usually does but the jokes and humour aren't great. The storyline is predictable and the lines and action are delivered in a very automated way. It is as if it was written to adhere to the majority of churned out comedy films. For specific Idris Elba and John Cena fans it is probably great but I think they have both done far better work. For a family film it doesn't have loads of swearing but does have a tun of violence. I do think it was a waste of two talents time and one I enjoyed the least.
