I really wanted to like this as it features two talented and likeable leads, especially Elizabeth Banks. I also love a mystery thriller.
However, it was too heavy on the social commentary, which doesn't reflect reality and therefore becomes distracting. Firstly it featured the trope of the black women whose only purpose is to support the white female leads with no complexity of their own; meanwhile the themes includuded that everyone is LGBQT and the majority of men are violent, stupid or drunk. Drunk men are bad, while drunk women are complex and redeemable. Looking forward to a time when we can just watch tv and movies that focus on being human and on original, creative story-telling.

I was thoroughly entertained by this movie because of the cultural references to this era - the music, outfits and language brought me right back to my own teenage-hood. Yes the plot had flaws, but again, even that is reminiscent of that time. In the 2000's and prior to it, people were not as cynical as they are now. You could easily buy the idea of watching four teenage turtles living in a sewer or a father dressing up as an old lady to baby-sit his kids, and from that perspective, I did not question the plot holes in the movie to the point that I could not enjoy it. It feels good to let your imagination believe - something the current world has lost. If you are not from this era, you may not "get it," and that's fine too.
The three main cast members committed to the roles and brought the nostalgia to the movie that made it entertaining to watch. Some have also complained that it was not gory enough, but personally I'm not into that, so the gore level was perfect for me.

I was enticed to watch this movie because Keanu Reeves is in it. The acting and script was awkward and just bad pretty much from the beginning but again I was enticed by Keanu. But I guess I have my self to blame for continuing to watch it. It's hard to enjoy a movie when the characters are flat and have no development; the characters seem to not have any impetus for their actions; and act completely ridiculous and non-sensical. Yes characters can be psychotic, but give them some depth and motivation to make them believable. I ended up fast forwarding it to the end it see what happens and the conclusion was just as ridiculous, inconsequential for everyone involved, and anti-climactic. It made me wonder why any actor would want to portray this story, especially with how much ridiculous vigour the actors did it with, or why anyone would want to produce or direct this movie. I'm the end I felt irritated for having wasted my time and the fact that these images are now in my consciousness for as long as I exist. Why Keanu?
