Melissa Leo and Andy Garcia must have been doing a friends kid a favor. This wasn't terrible but certainly could have been better. A bit of a lazy, cliche script/plot, but not badly acted. A few other familiar faces that performed well with what they were given. The action is okay, at times as unbelievable as any other hero rescue film, but overall okay. I guess these kinds of movies need to exist, and people in the industry need work. Every film doesn't have to be Oscar worthy.
Perhaps just for names, but I'm not sure why this movie had so many known "stars" and did so little with them. The whole thing just felt a little lazy, a bit phoned in. It wasn't terrible for a Sunday afternoon streaming movie while I am waiting for football to start. I just wish there was a bit more to it. The plot was very predictable, nad has been done many times over. Davidson, and especially Murphy were lazy stripped down versions of themselves. Eddie was very low energy, as if he was told not to be too "Eddie Murphy". Eva Longoria got a big check for probably two days work, for all the minimal time she is on screen for her 10 lines. I didn't mind some of the action sequences and Palmer was a pleasant surprise for me. With good material and direction I could see her carry a movie.
Solid low budget film, marginally written, marginally well acted. The main guy (Quint stand in), isnt so bad, may look for him in other work. It has the same basic plot line along with 100 other creature terrorized town stories. JAWS did it best, and many have tried since. There are a decent blend of live animal action along with a puppet gator for the chomp scenes. The runtime isn't bad either, just long enough to not feel so bad about sitting through to the end. Sidenote: Listed as just "Gator Lake", on my Prime, in IL, USA.
