I'm just so...tired. This is just another product indicative of Marvel's downward spiral. This is our latest protagonist, someone whose apparently supposed to be as morally challenging as Tony Soprano and Walter White. That's how much self-awareness was used when marketing This show. Just casually namedropping two of the best leads in arguably fiction, let alone television. Needless to say, this dreck isn't even within the same pocket multiverse as either The Sopranos or Breaking Bad. People keeps saying they're tired of hearing Marvel should end after Endgame. But for the past couple of years, Marvel just hasn't really been beating those allegations.
Okay, so I'm gonna get this straight, I never was particularly fond of this iteration of the Joker. Mostly because I'm a huge comic nerd and I can tell that the first movie wasn't so much of a deconstruction of the Joker character, but more so the exploration of a mentally ill man who just happens to refer to himself eventually as the Joker. Arthur Fleck is a deviation of the typical character and it's clear the Joker name was slapped on to get butts into seats. Beyond the name, it takes a lot of element from works evocative of Scorsese and smashes them down into a surprisingly basic and even somewhat generic story about someone falling into mental illness. Phoenix's performance is really what elevates the first film.
That being said, at least they tried something here. Not only is Phoenix's performance and Ladu Gaga's vocals the only saving grace, there are far more glaring flaws this time around. The pacing feels absolutely mishandled, Lady Gaga's performance(and her overall character as Harley Quinn) falls extremely flat, albeit Gaga can sing her heart out. The film feels extremely contrived, ESPECIALLY towards the conclusion(for those who seen it, they know what I'm talking about) and for as much as the first movie tries to raise some decent talking points with some cohesion, this sequel in comparison feels like it isn't sure what it's trying to convey. So much potential, but the execution leaves so much to be desired. Not what I would've wanted after waiting five years for a follow-up on Arthur's story, but ultimately not shocked. Once I heard about it being a musical and Lady Gaga(excellent singer but mediocre actress) being the lead, my optimism flew out the window. The irony is that like the first movie, the title is meant to attract audiences and as you can tell from Gaga's casting, they were really trying to pull out the stops this time. But I have a gut feeling this sequel is not going to have the same impact on any level like it's predecessor did. 3 out of 10. Can't rate this any higher.

This movie is an Metrocity. As Megamind, the REAL Megamind would say. It really says a lot when Despicable Me is about to be on its fourth movie and meanwhile Megamind, a much better movie than DM, can't even get a single proper sequel, besides the Button of Doom. The only sequel that should actually count as canon, by the way. If this is really the standards of writing we could come to expect from now on, they should've just left Megamind alone. Also, wasn't the WHOLE point of the first film the fact that Megamind feels so alone? This sequels existence contradicts all that came before. Would not recommend. Put on Disney or Nick Jr. Instead for better entertainment value.
