Malin Ackerman is a fantastic actress. Overall the "Hunting wives" cast is stellar sand the show is aware that it's over the top and a farce. However after a few episodes I couldn't bear it anymore as the tone was too vulgar. It was just way too much for me. Yes, it's a farce, but 2 decibels lower with a few nuances and smarter dialogue would have made this show must-see. I am sure the show finds its audience, especially in "Yellowstone" fans, however I need more substance and especially a more believable storyline and dialogues than this.
After "Big little lies"' success, author Moriarty was in huge demand. Hee fellow Aussie Kidman persuaded her to write a season 2, which was far inferior to season 1, and Kidman also produced a series based on Moriarty's "Nine perfect strangers", which benefited by coming out during the pandemic. Yes, the series' actors and the production were first rate, however everything was dragged down by Kidman with a bad wig and an even worse Russian accent. And now "season 2", and all I can ask is "why?". Just because Kidman put her weight behind it? The production quality is wonderful, as are all the actors. However the script is so lacking any sense. The storyline and the dialogues are so cringe worthy- the whole thing is just a waste of time. Kidman should take a break. She should focus on quality projects and give us all a well deserved break from her omnipresence.
Even through all actors and the setting were first rate, this series unfortunately never fulfills its potential. If the script made any more sense or was better written, Netflix could have a stellar series. However if the material is so uneven, unrealistic and scrambled together, all efforts are lost. The tone is so uneven and the visiting sister is so overdrawn that viewers never know whether they are watching a comedy, satire or mythical allegory.
It starts out as a mystery and changes its tone from episode to episode until it reaches a ludicrous ending. Loved the production quality, camera, sets. The villa and the location were the star of the series.
All three main actress are quite capable and can elevate even lukewarm material. And they all deserve so much better. That's why the 5 episodes are watchable and entertaining, but never make much sense and are quickly forgettable.
