Having watched the other Netflix show on the Menendez Brother in Monsters, I walked away still feeling like I wasn't sure what really happened. We can all have an opinion but I hope not everyone watches that show and thinks they can without a doubt know what happened because they filled in so many wholes with speculation it's marred the true facts.
This documentary was very good in hearing from the brothers as well as other important figures during the trials. It also highlights without a doubt that the second trial was a farce and that the brothers deserve in the very least an appeal. I believe they were both sexually abused and although this is no means a reason to murder your parents, I feel if they had of had a fair second trial, they would have received a manslaughter conviction. This means, and I agree, they have paid their dues to society and should be released. This is my opinion but the law must make a decision on their outcome, which is in discussion now. I hope this time they hear all the testimonial evidence from the relatives and finally give these boys a fair hearing.

I was intrigued to see this series because I remembered it all unfolding at the time. What I should have remembered now was that these type of series have so much fabrication in them, it's hard to know what's fact and what's fiction. And when it comes to something retelling of this magnitude, it needed to be more facts than filling in the pieces. The reason I gave it a 6 and not lower was purely the cast did a brilliant job, especially the actors playing the brothers. They were phenomenal in their ability to reach all the emotions portraying Lyle and Eric as close as they did. But if you're looking for a show that is going to give you the Facts, watch the other Netflix documentary on the Menendez Brothers.
As a lover of these books, I'm perplex as to why some of the storylines have to be so far removed. The reason this series is or was so popular was because of the writing and love stories within the books, but if you're going to change that, you're going to lose those avid readers as well, me for one.
I'm all for diversity and discovering one's sexuality but what I'm finding more so now with every Shonda Rhimes creation, there now seems to be a moral or spiritual lesson within each episode. Again, I'm all for learning but when I want to watch a series based of one of my favorite series, I just want to fall into that era and place.
As much as I loved the costumes and sets, which are truly magnificent, I'm losing interest fast on the actual story these new writers are creating. It really is such a shame that the producers and writers are taking this series away from the books and I'm not sure I'll be back for any more.
