After reading hype about this movie on Instagram and IMDb for months, it was very disappointing. Essentially, it's about a possessed/sleepwalking guy who does weird stuff at night. It got to be very repetitive, especially when the girlfriend discovers him sleepwalking, wakes him up, Listens to him explain that he doesn't remember, and then they cut to the very next night. Same thing happens again. There were definitely some creepy scenes, but instead of extending the tension, they just cut away from the scary dark nighttime scene too soon, to a daylight scene the next morning when the guy couldn't remember anything, of course. The girl was a little too accommodating, and the guy was a little too stubborn to care about either one of them. No one wants to go to a doctor, but if I see footage of myself sleep walking and hurting people and putting my hand in a trash disposal, I'm gonna get to a doctor instead of claiming my girlfriend is nagging me.
It's very rare to find so much consensus on IMDB reviews like we have here. The movie begins as a perfect, tense thriller but then quickly devolves. Likes others have said, I was all ready to give this 9 or 10 stars, but then the non-ending occurred, which dropped the score significantly. Also, there were other, laughable gaffes which leave you scratching your head. Baker calls his daughter in Chicago to warn her about the bomb. But he forgets to tell her about the bomb, and instead asks about her dating life. LOL. Just laughable nonsense from Bigelow. Several people kept telling President Idris to retaliate and gave him options of what severity to use...but he never once asked WHO are we gonna bomb. They didn't know who launched the missile, so they need to figure out who to retaliate against before worrying about looking at the weapons menu in the 3-ring binder. A bomb is gonna land in 5 minutes in Chicago. So then why are people in DC evacuating to the forest of Pennsylvania? It's no where near them!!! Lol, come on man. If you refuse to give us an ending, at least have the other parts make sense.
The movie itself as a whole gets 1 star. The scene with the black chicken gets 10 stars. So I give it a 5. Sometimes one single scene makes it worthwhile. Richard Benjamin's overacting is the worst overacting since Richard Benjamin in Saturday the 14th. Wow what a waste. Maybe possibly it was funny 4 decades ago but it doesn't hold up.
