Episodes 1 and 2 were done really well. They provided a lot of pre-hurricane footage and videos that residents took of their neighborhoods and their plans to evacuate or stay. It seems that in many cases they stayed because they either had no transportation or resources to evacuate. It seems that the city was not completely prepared for worst case scenarios like the levees breaking. That is really what caused most of the devastation. Episode 3's tone felt different when it started. That is because Spike Lee stepped in to produce it and interview various people that were involved in the hurricane. Race baiting, climate change, politics, and even COVID (?) dominated the episode. While I understand that a large amount of the population that had to evacuate was black, this should really be an issue of how the government and public officials respond to natural disasters. It should not be a black or white issue. No American would've wanted to see these people suffering or dying. Anyways, I recommend watching the series. Unfortunately, I had a knock off several stars due to the last episode but for sure episodes 1 and 2 are worth watching.
For some reason, I thought this was going to be a Christmas movie. Maybe because Hayley Duff was in it? She makes a lot of Christmas movies which are cute. I was in about 3/4 of the way when I realized that I saw no Christmas decor or mention of the holidays at all! Oh well. I guess just a romantic comedy. What's funny is in the ending credits. They list the songs and there are a bunch of Christmas songs. Very confusing! It's as if they intended for it to be a Christmas movie and then changed their minds. Very odd! I always like Hayley Duff in a movie, but I would pass on watching this one again. There were some cute moments and she generally had chemistry with her romantic lead. I think the best part of the movie is all the fantastic pies they eat! I'm headed to the bakery now!
I read all the other reviews, and they are mostly spot on. This limited series won't likely receive any Emmy nominations, but it's a fun "whodunnit". Beautiful, rich family. Stunning scenery. Overacting? Yes. Dull acting? At times. Expect something that you would find on the Hallmark Channel. Dakota Fanning giving "Jane" from Twilight vibes worked. Nicole Kidman doing the ice queen thing worked. Could they have toned Benji's hair color? It literally distracted me at times! Ha! I actually found myself watching the opening credits to see their wedding group dance scene. Might've been one of the better things about this series? I could possibly see them making this into a regular series if they do some work on the screenplay and character development. Give it a try!
