The acting is atrocious to say the least. There's still 20 minutes left and yes, I could turn it off, but dang it! I've already invested over an hour on this hot dog water. I'm not frightened, I couldn't care less about these people, the twist came limping out of nowhere, the plot makes zero sense, no one has chemistry - I just don't have enough words to convey how bad this movie is. The writing is horrible, the villain speech at the end is voiced by American voice actors for anime (iykyk) and it's reminiscent of a 60s Batman exposition piece. If I wasn't so angry I'd laugh. Dear reader, please learn from my mistake and avoid this. It's not "so bad it's good"... It's just so so... SO VERY BAD.
This is a movie that needs research and reading to get a feel for it. If you know the stories of the actual apostles, not their books, you see that this is just a story about the spread of Christianity. The light is a representation of faith, the fates of the missing people are what happens when you lose the light, and if you pay attention you'll notice a difference between what happens to some people when the light is lost and others. The names of the characters, including a missing baby, are biblical. The timeframe, the imagery, how they come across one of the characters - it's all related to the Bible or the apostles. In my opinion, this movie suffers for the fact that you need information a lot of people wouldn't have. The ending is not satisfying and it appears that the rules that have been established aren't being followed - unless you choose to look all of this stuff up and realize what is really being said.
