A kiwi myself I found this dvd at my local library and watched over 2 nights. Found myself comparing it to Sharp Objects which I also enjoyed. My first thoughts were 'what an ensemble cast for a NZ production!' Elizabeth Moss and her NZ/Aus/US accent was charming, I am a bit of a fan. The central themes focus on the consequences of toxic masculinity, and yeah why not! Elizabeth's character walked into many situations (that had me gesticulating 'what are you doing these guys are mostly evil') that she required a bit of saving from by others. But in the end she somehow perseveres, though perhaps doesn't quite earn or deserve the victory. I found Holly Hunter's character quite amusing, I think she pulled her performance off nicely, the viewer can tell when an actor is having a bit of fun. Loved the NZ scenery, we are so darn lucky here. My only complaint is that the second half of the season somewhat ebbed, becoming perhaps a little predictable and anti-climactic. I will check season 2 out one day.
Bingewatched 4 seasons of Banshee over 4 days. Had heard of this show years ago as NZer Antony Starr was well known (mostly in NZ) through his years of work on Outrageous Fortune.
Finally had the time and some curiosity to start watching and had a string desire to finish especially with them calling it a day at Season 4.
The hook was strong in Season 1; solid action and fx, plot intrigue in a former convict assuming the role of Sheriff, great looking actresses frequently disrobed, the brutal though righteous dismantling of the MMA fighter.
Perhaps bingewatching is not always the best way to enjoy a long running series, but I was glad they wrapped production when they did. The neo-nazi plot of season 4 was all a little pedestrian for my liking.
There is only so many times one can suspend disbelief that a bunch of highly trained bad guys with the best weapons systems get defeated by good guys with pistols (and stout plot armour)
Stand out was the effective 'dead eyes' performance of Danish Actor Ulrich Thomsen playing Mr Proctor.

The bomb scenes were great, loved the sense of alarm the bombs constant warning messages (in a language i couldnt pick) brought the characters and then the app scene, I laughed through that all from parking lot to detonation.
Brought back the hilarity of old 'bum rush' scenes from first season.
This season is in a good place.
