This documentary was just straight up depressing. I hate capitalism. I'm not sure what the point of the documentary was, but the fact that people will lose their jobs to automation was flashed up on the screen at the end seemingly out of nowhere. I understand what their getting at- they treat the workers as subhuman and eventually they're gonna replace the actual humans. I don't think that's an end of the world scenario if we put in place profit sharing laws etc. People shouldn't be working to death. Anyway I have never been more grateful to live in the west and to have employment rights. And I will continue to fight for them. What is the point of this review? I don't know.
Basically, I didn't enjoy the documentary, it was quite boring from my point of view, only a few little bits of human touch and seeing peoples perspectives which made it good. I just have mixed feelings and I can think of 10 documentaries which don't have Oscar's that I would rather give an Oscar to.

A subtle exploration of female relationships with an added dynamic of sex. Aesthetically and fashion wise it is absolutely beautiful and the acting is great. The narrative format of following someone from when they just joined the brothel at the height of its success to when it was ultimately shut down and Mme Claude put in prison was enthralling. I completely do not understand the negative reviews on here. I mean, someone says 'why did she go to America?' Bruh have you ever heard of trying to escape prison???? A very common thing for heads of criminal organisations to do!?! Personally, I don't understand why I'd never heard of this woman before especially given how tied up to the French gov it all was. Yet if it was a male head of a criminal organisation I probably would've heard of them....
I love haiku, sappy but not corny love stories, mysteries that dive into the past and slice of life. Safe to say, I loved this film. I'm in tears!!!
The bright and beautiful colours, the spray painted haiku, a story to keep you engaged from beginning to end, what's not to love about this??
